At Sanofi we have embarked on creating a world leading mRNA center of excellence to enable the next generation of mRNA vaccines. As part of the center we are working on ML and AI solutions for key problems being addressed when designing and optimizing mRNAs and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). I will present codonbert, a large language model (LLM) for mRNA that uses codons rather than nucleotides as input. I will then discuss how we use codonbert and other generative methods in an Active Learning framework to optimize mRNAs while drastically reducing experimental time and costs.
