REDCap 2014 – What’s New and What’s Next?

Paul Harris, PhD

Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure web application designed to support planning and management of data for research studies. The REDCap platform allows users to easily build and manage online surveys and databases quickly and securely. REDCap currently supports more than 103,000 projects and 135,000 end-users across a rapidly growing consortium partner list of 983 institutions in 79 countries. The development cycle for REDCap is rapid and we typically release technical backward-compatible feature enhancements and/or new functional modules each month. This presentation will focus first on highlighting new features released within the REDCap platform over the past 12-months (e.g. enhanced data quality rules, formal data query workflows, enhanced role-based person management, dynamic data extraction from clinical systems). Next, the presentation will focus on new and near-term development work (e.g. enhanced patient reported outcome data collection features). Finally, time will be reserved at the end of the presentation for bi-directional dialogue and brainstorming about helpful features and functions for downstream prioritization.
