Sherry will arrange telephone moves. ---+++ !!Post doc Appointment * Sherry has completed initial letter for Pingsheng Wu's post doc appointment; letter is enroute to be signed by Dr. Ann Richmond. ---+++ !!JSM Recruitment * Diane shared that seven applicants (both Staff and Faculty) have been identified pre-JSM. ---+++ !!State Contract * The State contract will be discontinued effective 8/30/08; due to this, Zhouwen Liu will have 25% available effort and Angel An will have 22.5%. ---+++ !!Supervisor Retreat * Linda will contact Susan Mezger to confirm her presentation. ---+++ !!Professional Development/Travel/Discretionary Centers * WJ will continue to maintain a spreadsheet to track professional development; part of the value is being able to determine "average" costs for categories of expense. * Travel authorizations will be maintained in a central location; WJ will let traveler know when approval has been received. In addition, he will check reports regularly to ensure expenses are submitted in a timely fashion. * Unless it is a teaching center, discretionary centers are "protected" for department members' use and are not to be utilized for professional development. ---+++ !!eProcurement * Eve and WJ attended training on 8/17/08. * Because it will save money for the Department, Eve is utilizing Guy Brown (rather than Staples) for office products. * Diane suggested that our IT group develop an automated system of price checking.
