Naming Convention for Documents in Share Drive (or personal drive)

When creating a new file

  • NEVER name files with a space in them { example: Jerry Smith CV.pdf }
  • ALWAYS fill all characters with something { examples: Jerry_Smith_CV.pdf & JerrySmith_CV.pdf }
  • AVOID too many breaks (a couple ok)

REASON:

For the user, there appears to be no difference. For Information Technology (I.T.) or advanced users there is a huge difference. If you use the "command" code to try and access a file, anytime it finds an "unusual" character (like a space between words) it breaks up the string and you have to escape without finding the file.

The system will not recognize a space, but does recognize hard characters such as underscore.
