Biostatistician I

Biostatistician I is an exempt staff position. Responsibilities of a Biostatistician I will vary based on collaborations. As member of a research team, a Biostatistician I will perform complex data management functions and standard statistical analyses. Proficiency in use of statistical and data management software is required. A Biostatistician I must perform job functions with supervision and is expected to engage in continual learning, including exploration of modern statistical design, refinement of statistical skills, and development of medical knowledge in their work areas.

1. Management of large and complex databases.
1a. Plan, design and modify databases.
1b. Perform data management tasks including dataset construction, validation, and manipulation using R, SAS, Stata, Python/Perl, C and other software.
1c. Maintain excellent analysis and data management logs to ensure reproducibility of research.
1d. Manage and safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI).
1e. Create analysis files from databases.

2. Use statistical software (R, SAS, Stata, Python/Perl, C) and other statistical software to analyze data and produce graphics.

3. Work as an effective collaborator with medical researchers under supervision of PhD or senior level Biostatistician.

4. Present datasets and analyses in oral presentations and written reports.

5. Organize and format output from data analysis for presentations, publications, and internal use.

Biostatistician II

Biostatistician II is an exempt staff position usually requiring an MS in statistics or biostatistics. Responsibilities of a Biostatistician II will vary based on collaborations. As a member of a research team and with modest supervision, a Biostatistician II will apply complex data management and a variety of intermediate and advanced statistical techniques and technical skills to promote the collection, analysis and interpretation of data arising from research studies in an academic research program.

1. Collaborate as a member of a research team on the design of a research project.
1a. Assist in providing statistical expertise in the design of research projects, focusing on fundamental issues including specification of hypotheses and basic study design.
1b. Assist the research team in the design of methods to collect information, including the design of questionnaires and other data collection instruments, following the study design developed for the research program.
1c. Participate in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of data.
1d. Assist in preparing preliminary plan for analysis of a research study; present such plans to the research team, and prepare final analysis plans based on team input.

2.Collaborate as a member of a research team on the implementation and analysis of a research project.
2a. Implement planned analysis, including data verification and data correction as necessary, using one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data.

3. Assist in the publication of research projects.
3a. Participate in the preparation of written reports and oral presentations summarizing data analysis results, including detailed description of statistical methods, detailed analysis of results, and synthesis of conclusions from summary tables.

Biostatistician III

Biostatistician III is an exempt staff position requiring an MS in statistics or biostatistics and a working history of sustained excellent performance in a Biostatistician II level position or significant prior work experience relevant to the position. Responsibilities of a Biostatistician III will vary based on collaborations. They may include the following: lightly supervised collaborative work, work requiring acquisition of statistical and clinical knowledge with limited guidance, providing supervision of other biostatisticians and programmers, and all duties relevant to an experienced Biostatistician II.

1. Collaborate with a research team on the design of a research project with moderate or minimal supervision.
1a. Provide statistical expertise in the design of research projects, focusing on fundamental issues including specification of hypotheses and basic study design
1b. Actively collaborate with the research team in the design of methods to collect information, including the design of questionnaires and other data collection instruments, following the study design developed for the research program.
1c. Actively collaborate the development of operations and procedures for the collections, editing, verification and management of data.
1d. Actively collaborate in the preparation of the preliminary plan for analysis of a research study; provide feedback to plans from/to the research team and review/edit final analysis plans based on team input.

2. Serve as a leader to ensure objectives are met.
2a. Actively contribute to the setting of intermediate project goals and tasks.
2b. Actively communicate logistical considerations for successful task processing.

3. Collaborate as a member of a research team on the implementation and analysis of a research project.
3a. Implement planned analysis, including data verification and data correction as necessary, using one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data with moderate supervision.
3b. Assist in directing the work of technical staff engaged in the collection or analysis of statistical data.
3c. Display a high level of professionalism and emotional intelligence in direct interactions with collaborators and colleagues.
3d. Effectively meet independently with investigators.

4. Actively collaborate in the publication of research projects.
4a. Actively contribute to the preparation of written reports and oral presentations summarizing data analysis results, including detailed description of statistical methods, detailed analysis of results, and synthesis of conclusions from summary tables with moderate supervision.
4b. Meet and present analyses to collaborators independently as needed.

Biostatistician IV

Biostatistician IV is an exempt staff position requiring an MS in statistics or biostatistics, extensive work experience in a Biostatistician III level position, and at least one area of technical or methodological mastery. Responsibilities of a Biostatistician IV will vary based on collaborations. They may include the following: completely independent and unsupervised collaborative work, supervision of other biostatisticians and programmers, work requiring independent acquisition of statistical and clinical knowledge, and all duties relevant to an experienced Biostatistician III.

1. Collaborate with a research team on the design of a research project with minimal supervision.
1a. Provide statistical expertise in the design of research projects, focusing on fundamental issues including specification of hypotheses and basic study design
1b. Lead the research team in the design of methods to collect information, including the design of questionnaires and other data collection instruments, following the study design developed for the research program.
1c. Supervise the development of operations and procedures for the collections, editing, verification and management of data
1d. Actively collaborate on the preparation of the preliminary plan for analysis of a research study; provide feedback to plans from/to the research team and review/edit final analysis plans based on team input.
1e. Provide substantive contributions to the research study design and analysis plan.
1f. Actively identify the needs of the research and researchers and independently solve problems.

2. Serve as a leader to ensure objectives are met.
2a. Provide leadership in directing work flow.
2b. Determine and communicate logistical considerations for successful task processing.
2c. Have an established record of exceptional instruction in methods and procedures using effective teaching and communication techniques.

3. Collaborate as a member of a research team on the implementation and analysis of a research project.
3a. Implement planned analysis, including data verification and data correction as necessary, using one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data.
3b. Assign and direct the work of technical staff engaged in the collection or analysis of statistical data.

4. Collaborate in the publication of research projects.
4a. Provide substantive intellectual contributions to written reports and oral presentations summarizing data analysis results, including detailed description of statistical methods, detailed analysis of results, and synthesis of conclusions from summary tables.
4b. Effectively meet and present analyses to collaborators independently as needed.
