SAS at VUMC

At VUMC, the SAS suite is delivered to users using a central server. Licenses to run SAS installed on individual workstations are not available for a reasonable price.

The easiest way to run SAS is to connect to the SAS server using a web browser. The web application is called "SAS Studio". There is also a Windows only application called "SAS Enterprise Guide". Enterprise Guide is basically a more full featured version of SAS Studio. For most of us, SAS Studio will the most appropriate choice.

To begin using SAS Studio, copy and paste this URL into your web browser: https://sas.app.vumc.org:8443/SASStudio. The web app should work with most any web browser. When asked for you username and password, use your VUMCid and epassword.

You must be on campus or have made a VPN connection to be able to use SAS Studio.

VUMC SAS documentation

SAS Studio (Windows, Mac, Linux)

SAS Studio is a development application for SAS that you access through your web browser. This is probably the tool for most of us. We are used to writing SAS from scratch rather than using wizards so SAS Studio's more minimal wizards are not a problem. SAS Enterprise Guide's wizard and menu system is more extensive, but it runs on Windows only. A great benefit of SAS Studio is that it runs in the browser so nothing has to be installed.

Before connecting to the SAS Studio server, A user's computer must be logged on to the Vanderbilt Active Directory domain or be connected via VPN.

See https://www.vumc.org/enterprisecybersecurity/vpn for instructions on downloading and installing the VPN client. Be sure to use the VUMC (not VU) instructions when there is a choice.

SAS Enterprise Guide (Windows only)

SAS Enterprise Guide is a point-and-click, menu- and wizard-driven tool that "empowers users to analyze data and publish results". SAS Enterprise Guide is a Microsoft Windows client application.

SAS Office Analytics (Windows only)

SAS Office Analytics is a suite of products that enables one to use SAS in Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook). This is a set of add-ins for Word, Excel, etc. Runs on Windows only.
