Department of Biostatistics Feedback and Communication Survey

To assess the amount of feedback and communication one is receiving from their supervisor, a survey was administered throughout the department. The main idea of the survey was, "The person I report to gives me useful feedback on a regular basis. The person I report to communicates important information in a timely manner". The survey consisted of eight questions assessing the amount of feedback for a given month.

Survey Results

Accounting for those with more than one supervisor, there was a total of 31 responses with an approximate response rate of about 50%. Overall 68% reported as having some feedback within the past month, stratified by position faculty biostatisticians reported 42% and staff biostatisticians reported 84%. Over half felt the quality of their feedback was "Good" or "Exceeded Expectations" 57%, for faculty biostatisticians 60% and staff biostatisticians 56%. For the timeliness of the feedback received, overall 67% felt is was "Good" or "Exceeded Expectations", for faculty biostatisticians 80%, and staff biostatisticians 62%. When ask to list three topics you would like to receive feedback on, the main types of feedback listed concerned the following:
  • Evaluation of applied methods and exposure to new techniques (Statistical Methods/Knowledge)
  • Additional Support with their research
  • Promotions/Career Advancement
  • Expectations/Professional Growth
  • Areas of Improvement
    Overall, 71% would like to receive their feedback 2 or more times a month, among faculty biostatisticians 50% and staff biostatisticians 83%.
