---++ Proteometrics | [[MassSpecGroup][Mass Spec Working Group]] ---+++ The quantitative measure and analysis of protein expression. The field of proteomics is being fueled by the development of new measurement technologies (and/or the adaptation of old ones). Many of these measurement methods are semi-quantitative in nature. That is, the response can be quantitated, but substantial variation - appearing at the level of the sampling unit - impairs our ability to proceed with quantitative analysis. Frequently some form of data normalization (e.g., background subtraction, additive shift, multiplicative scaling, nonlinear transformation) may be required before the analysis per se can take place. We begin with a description of the commonly used laboratory methods. * [[TwoDGelDescipt][Gel Electrophoresis]] * [[MassSpecDescript][Mass Spectrometry]] * [[TandemLcMsDescript][Tandem LC/MS]] Each of these methods exhibits different measurement characteristics, and may require specially adapted analytic methods -- Main.DeanBillheimer - 26 Feb 2004
