    • Q1: all tumors vs. non-tumor (52/49) in training set and all tumor vs. non-tumor (42/40) in testing set
    • Q2: lung cancer vs. non-tumor (30/49) in training set and lung cancer cyto+ vs. non-tumor(25/40) in the testing set
    • Q3: lung cancer vs. other tumors_breast tumors (30/22) in training set and lung cancer cyto+ vs. other tumors_breast(25/17) in the testing set
    • Q4
      • A. Apply discriminants found in Q1 training (all tumor 52 versus non-tumor 49) to the cyto negative lung group who have lung cancer ( N:13) as a test set.
      • B. Apply discriminants found in Q2 training (lung cancer 30 vs non-tumor 49) to the cyto negative lung group who have lung cancer ( N:13) as a test set.

  • B. Survival Analysis : Survival-predictors should be tested in a training and testing set strategy in these groups: A Q1, A Q2, A Q4A, and AQ4B. The survival should be calculated as the difference between date of diagnosis of pleural effusion and Date of death or LDKA.
