Department of Biostatistics Seminar/Workshop Series
Biostatistical Collaboration in the Era of Team Science
Paul J. Nietert, Ph.D
Professor of Biostatistics, Department of Public Health Sciences
Medical University of South Carolina
Biostatistics is, by definition, interdisciplinary. Successful careers in biostatistics are often built around strong collaborations with investigators in a variety of disciplines. These types of working relationships are being recognized more frequently, especially now that “team science” is being emphasized to a greater extent. The National Institutes of Health Clinical and Translational Science Awards (
CTSAs) have provided infrastructure support within academic medical institutions that facilitate team science. This seminar will include discussion of my past experiences that sprung out of having led the biostatistics, epidemiology, and research design program within the
CTSA at the Medical University of South Carolina. Topics will include advice on developing strong collaborations, building on collaborations to improve methods development, optimizing dissemination of novel biostatistical methods, and implications for promotion and tenure.
