In the 2007 community survey, 35% of biostatistics department members indicated that they were either neutral or unsatisfied with ongoing training opportunities. When asked for additional details, the department identified several areas that could improve training

  1. Start a PhD program
  2. Various ideas for improving the seminar
  3. Improve existing training, with some general concerns about the MS meetings
  4. Make training more hands-on or interactive
  5. Develop new short courses or more comprehensive programs to teach things like R, latex, Sweave, etc. Ideas ranged from one-day intensive, week long introductions, to year long recurring courses once per week. These could include courses on statistical methods that staff may use frequently, with the purpose of covering more of the background.
  6. A few responses that everything is great (R clinics, short courses) and don't screw it up by changing it!
