Hyperbolastic Models and Their Applications in Medical Research

Hyperbolastic models have flexible inflection points that make them distinct from such functions as logistic and Gompertz. Moreover, through an appropriate link function, they have the capability to analyze the effects of multiple explanatory variables on the response variable. The hyperbolastic models find applications in a wide range of fields, including longitudinal data analysis, tumor progression and regression as well as speed of progression and regression, dermal and epidermal wound healing, adult and embryonic stem cell proliferation, dose-response models for testing new drugs and identification of its toxicity and effectiveness and finally modeling population growths. The nonlinear longitudinal hyperbolastic mixed effects model of type II has been used in analyzing disparities in cervical cancer mortalities.
