Department of Biostatistics Job Shadowing Program

Careers in statistics

As statisticians, we are in high demand in many different fields. Anywhere research is done, statisticians ensure it is of the highest quality by recommending the best study designs, choosing efficient analysis methods, creating high-information graphics, and reporting the results clearly and accurately. You can find information about the field in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, which is published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The American Statistical Association has recently conducted a salary survey of biostatisticians. You can view the results here.

The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Department of Biostatistics

Our department is a part of a larger university community conducting research in many different areas. The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is unique in that it has a large, central Department of Biostatistics, but the biostatisticians form long-term collaborations with specific departments throughout the University. More information about our department can be found here. We have a wealth of knowledge on our innovative department website, to which our entire department actively contributes.
