I did undergraduate research in graph theory, and I also participated in two ACM programming competitions (2003, 2004). Our 2004 team came in first at the site. In my free time I play video games, frisbee, and table tennis; watch anime; read fantasy/science fiction books; program; and hang out with friends. I'm a [[http://www.9types.com/descr/4/][Type 4]] according to the Enneagram, and an ISFP according to Myers-Briggs. My job here involves working with faculty members on their individual projects as well as helping out with general projects assigned to the programming team. <img src="https://projecteuler.net/profile/kindlyviking.png" alt="Project Euler Badge"> Areas of interest: * Web programming * Graph theory * Calculus * Personality types * Sociology ---++ Current Projects %TABLE{ tableborder="0" cellpadding="3" }% | [[YamlR]] | YAML parser for R | | [[http://github.com/coupler/coupler][Coupler]] | A database-linking program | | [[http://tipqc.org][TIPQC]] | Tennessee Imperative for Perinatal Quality Care | ---++ Miscellaneous %TABLE{ tableborder="0" cellpadding="3" }% | [[VikingNotes]] | My notes page | | [[VikingRuby]] | Ruby snippets | | [[http://github.com/viking][Github]] | My github.com profile | | [[System.JumpAutocompleteImpl]] | TWiki auto-completion feature | | [[TWikiBrowserPlugins]] | Searchbar plugins for Firefox/IE | ---++ Three great virtues of a programmer *Laziness* %BR% The quality that makes you go to great effort to reduce overall energy expenditure. It makes you write labor-saving programs that other people will find useful, and document what you wrote so you don't have to answer so many questions about it. Hence, the first great virtue of a programmer. *Impatience* %BR% The anger you feel when the computer is being lazy. This makes you write programs that don't just react to your needs, but actually anticipate them. Or at least pretend to. Hence, the second great virtue of a programmer. *Hubris* %BR% Excessive pride, the sort of thing Zeus zaps you for. Also the quality that makes you write (and maintain) programs that other people won't want to say bad things about. Hence, the third great virtue of a programmer. See [[http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?LazinessImpatienceHubris][LazinessImpatienceHubris]] for more information. <!-- * Name: Jeremy Stephens * Email: jeremy.f.stephens@vanderbilt.edu * Set ALLOWTOPICCHANGE = JeremyStephens * Set JUMPAUTOCOMPLETE = yes * Set TIMEZONE = America/Chicago * Set RELEASEEDITLOCKCHECKBOX = checked * Set TOPICSTYLEURL = /twiki/pub/Main/JeremyStephens/style.css * Set TOPICLAYOUTURL = /twiki/pub/Main/JeremyStephens/layout.css * Set TINYMCEPLUGIN_DISABLE = 1 -->
