---+ Later Review of Paul Harris' System ---++General impressions We met with Paul Harris on August 23,2005 to have another look at his tools set. It has matured in the year since we last had a demonstration and looks nice. It is especially suited to use with the many small to medium data collection tasks that come up all the time. The system should work OK for up to 2000 variables in a database. The spreadsheet method for specifying the meta-data apparently works very well. Paul says he can go from the spreadsheet to the tables and forms in an hour or so. He makes a good point that his procedure for describing the database specifications forces the early involvement of the investigators in the design process and that is a good thing. The product is a pretty lean design. Paul has avoided adding features that are not really necessary or that would complicate and slow the design process. Field types are restricted to data boxes (numeric and text), select lists, and comments (for longer, unstructured stuff). ---++Pros Web based data entry; simple; quick to implement designs; intuitive interface for users; expiration of username; uses vunetid/epassword authentication; logging; ---++Cons All data in a single table (but it is done that way to speed implementation); not a full clinical data management solution (and not intended to be) -- Main.DalePlummer - 29 Aug 2005
