HR Quarterly Department Head Meeting: 13 March 2013

Traci Nordberg's presentation:

NEW
  • Flex Time Reporting System similar to Duke, Hopkins and others will be implemented in the future. This would be one system that lumps various types of time off into one bucket.
  • Short-Term Disability Coverage: There has been an organizational push for employees to take advantage of this benefit.
  • STAFF Parental Leave: HR is working on it.
  • VPES will be replaced with commercial system called Success Factors, a goal and evaluation system. A couple of enhanced features mentioned were goal-setting and identifying competencies.

Important Reminder.
  • Termination Codes/Reasons are extremely important. Traci requested that the leader enter the data himself/herself and/or make sure it is done correctly.
  • Role of HR Consultant is just that. In the past, HR has been viewed as the "police" and the objective is to ensure that HR is equally supportive of employee and the organization. The goal is for the manager to develop his/her own set of tools. After all the manager/department is the decision-maker. For example, when employee terminations occur, HR should not be in the room so that the employee knows that he/she has an outlet. Managers must make tough decisions and partner with HR.

HIRING FREEZE
  • Internal candidates will be considered for approved opportunities.
