Periodic Workshops and Seminars in the Planning Stage | Ideas for Topics | Schedule Planning

Seminar / Workshop Series

The department is beginning a biweekly series 2 June 2004. Other dates so far are June 16, June 30, July 14, August 4, August 18, September 1, September 15. Beginning in September, seminars and workshops will be held weekly. The intended audience for the seminar series is quantitative methodologists. There will be some seminars of interest to health services researchers, epidemiologists, clinical trialists, and those interested in statistical computing or data management. We will send e-mail announcements to those in the pertinent groups defined at SemEmail, depending on the seminar.

We may make a journal club part of this series. Please put suggestions for papers to discuss here.

Another idea we are considering is having some of our biweekly sessions devoted to work in progress in which faculty and senior staff get advice from each other regarding methodologic research. Another idea is to bounce ideas off each other at a coffee or monthly lunch.

Beginning September 2004 we will begin small voluntary study groups to meet to study somewhat advanced topics. ChunLi will convene the first group, on empirical likelihood. We will start with the book Empirical Likelihood by Art Owen, and afterwards may move to some related papers.
