Announcing the 2008 Community Survey March 10th to March 28th

EMAIL FROM: Vice Chancellor Jacobson

We are committed to making this one of the very best places to work in the country. And to do that we need to hear from you – and not just some of you – we want to hear from everyone. Our 2008 Community Survey will open on March 10 and stay open through March 28. I am very pleased with our response to the survey last year – 80% of us took the time to complete the survey. The feedback given to the leadership team and to our managers was of enormous value.

We have learned so much about what you want by just asking. The Community Survey is one of the most effective ways for us to hear from you. We asked and you told us to help you balance your work and personal life. That led us to build flexibility into our job scheduling. It showed us a reason to hire and expand our Vanderbilt Valet service to help you manage those day to day demands on your time. You asked that we share with you our financial success and that realization led us to provide success sharing bonuses for four of the last five years. You told us that you wanted a better performance appraisal process. That has led to an entirely re-vamped process.

You and your managers across the Medical Center have collaborated to use the results of the Community Survey to improve the work environment for your own team over the past year. Departments have created team newsletters to share information across the board and have strengthened the communication within their areas while others have cross-trained the staff to stabilize the workload. One department developed a physician liaison to discuss issues between physicians and staff members.

This is important and we’ve asked all of our managers and supervisors to ensure their team has the time and resources to complete the survey. It should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. The Human Resources website has all the information you need to help answer your questions. And, of course, your responses are strictly confidential. Thank you for all you do to make Vanderbilt great
