Good News

Jeffrey Blume announced that the graduate program has been approved by the School of Medicine Education Committee, and that the program is now undergoing external review. Frank commented that Jeffrey has been amazingly thorough to bring the program to this important milestone. The next step is to solidify financial support for the program; in addition, the program will be reviewed by the Faculty Senate in the spring.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Charlene Dewey, M.D., M.Ed., F.A.C.P., and William Swiggart, M.S., L.P.C., of the Vanderbilt Center for Professional Health ( http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/root/vumc.php?site=cph), presented on wellness, burnout, and how to say no. Linda has requested a copy of their presentation to post to the Wiki.

PEOPLE

Wenli Wang has joined the department as a biostatistician II. Please welcome Wenli!

SERVICE

Frank commented that everyone enjoys helping; in that spirit, he requested that faculty respond in a timely fashion to administrative team members, particularly with regard to recruiting new faculty and staff.

Ben Saville expressed appreciation to faculty for their flexibility in seminar scheduling.

Several faculty who attended the January 27th VUSM/VUSN faculty meeting shared some of the highlights, including a redefinition of Pillar goals. Tatsuki Koyama has joined the CQI Communications Team.

QUALITY

Frank commented that Linda has done a wonderful job in addressing the findings of the Community Survey. Linda has coordinated three open sessions and one large session to discuss the findings, including how to use anonymous survey feedback in the most productive manner and the importance of having a safe outlet for department members to share ideas and concerns.

GROWTH & FINANCE

The department’s annual budget is due February 19.
