Current medical practice depends largely upon the reliability and cognitive capacity of autonomous individual practitioners for classes of problems that routinely exceed the bounds of unaided human cognition. This talk will review trends in the growth of evidence that has bearing on clinical decision-making, and discuss systems approaches to improving the consistency and quality of clinical care in a data-intensive era of personalized medicine.
