Complex Trait Genetics and Serotonin

A common vein in my research record is quantitative genetics, or the study of natural biological variation and its causes. In my seminar, I will focus predominantly on modern complex trait genetics in mice, a mammalian model organism with exemplary translational potential. I will describe some of the approaches used in this field, some of the successes, and some unresolved difficulties. I will highlight past results and novel directions in my own work involving serotonin, a modulatory neurotransmitter system that influences myriad normal brain functions and that plays important roles in psychiatric dysfunction and disease.
