Postdoctoral Position in Statistical Genetics and Genetic Epidemiology

One postdoctoral position in statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology is immediately available. The successful candidate will help develop and implement statistical/computational methods for problems arising from human genetics studies, especially those with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. We have NGS data on case-control studies, normal-tumor paired comparisons, and somatic mutations. Possible research projects include, but are not limited to, developing statistical methods for gene-based association analysis, gene-gene interactions, pathway- and genetic network-based analysis, disease risk prediction using genome-wide marker data, association analysis for admixed populations, analysis of copy number variations, and developing necessary software packages. Projects can be tailored to suit the candidate’s research interest and expertise. The candidate will also work on projects related to studies for common complex human diseases such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, and diabetic retinopathy.

The candidate should have a doctoral degree in a quantitative field, such as statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics or physics, with interest in genetics and genomics. Candidates with doctoral degrees in genetics or related fields with strong computational and statistical background are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should also demonstrate ability in computer programming, and ability of independent thinking and possession of excellent communication and writing skills.

The Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) is an interdisciplinary center with over 40 faculty representing numerous clinical and basic science departments. It has a highly interactive research program organized into three thematic programs: Disease Gene Discovery, Computational Genomics, and Translational Genetics. The CHGR faculty and staff enjoy the substantial benefits of the collaborative Vanderbilt atmosphere.
