Definition
(idiomatic) superior to; of a higher quality than

Examples
She really thinks she's a cut above in that hat. Don't always think you're a cut above others.

2. a cut below - adjective

Definition
(idiomatic) inferior to; of a lower quality than

Note: Idioms and slang are better not used in formal or scientific writing.
