Ways to improve research

• An experienced researcher should be integrally involved in every project (mentors are very important!!)
• Seek biostatistics support early
• Plan early and a lot
  • Inform power calculations very well
  • Anticipate challenges (e.g., low response rates, non-adherence)
• Research projects should be scrutinized closely (studio like sessions with AREC members)
• Surveys themselves should be designed more carefully (100 item surveys are far less useful than 3 item ones).
• We must use a good data entry interface and database management system. (it must be tested thoroughly).
• Have a paper trail / documentation for everything you do with the data
