Linux Setup notes for Xerox Phaser 6250 dp printer
- place the file /usr/share/cups/model/xr_p6250.ppd (this file is attached below)
- use Control Center (kcontrol) to make a queue (called it laser2)
- K --> Settings --> Control Center
- Peripherals --> Printers
- Right click in upper panel; left click on "Add printer/class..." and follow the prompts
- backend selection should be "Network Printer (TCP)"
- printer address is xrx8a2923.dhcp.mc.vanderbilt.edu (160.129.129.95) and port is 9100
- click on Other button for Printer Model Selection; naviagte to /usr/share/cups/model/xr_p6250.ppd
- take defaults on rest of choices
- questions:
- does this get proper postscript function?
- what is the command line/config file way to do this?
- lpadmin -p color2 -L "biostatistics" -D "Xerox Phaser 6250" -P /usr/share/cups/model/xr_p6250.ppd -v socket://160.129.129.95/ -E
- The setup procedure provided by Xerox works well. See http://www.office.xerox.com/cgi-bin/DriverD.pl and click on "6250_English_PS_Driver". This will download setup.exe; save it on the desktop. Once the download is finished, run setup.exe to install the driver. The network address for this printer is xrx8a2923.dhcp.mc.vanderbilt.edu or 160.129.129.95. Note that the setup procedure takes a very long time to do its job. Just wait it out.
